Is it even LEGAL to rebuild New Orleans?

Given the ridiculous liberties that the federal government has taken with the definition of wetlands (so that a landowner can be prosecuted for filling in a low spot that occasionally fills with water after a heavy rain), is it even LEGAL for any redevelopment to take place in the low areas of New Orleans? Are officials running afoul of the law by the mere act of pumping the floodwaters out?

Enquiring minds want to know.

I think all the Conservatives today should be talking about one of their heroes - Bill Bennett. Or the rising death toll in Iraq. Or the fact that Osama is still out there - remember him? Or what about a $500 billion Deficit. These are all good tlking points for conservatives. As far as New Orleans is considered, why not just leave it alone. You've already screwed this up as much as you can. That felt good. I think I'll vist here every now and then.

You crack me up -- anonymously, of course. I'll take your points one by one.

I think all the Conservatives today should be talking about one of their heroes - Bill Bennett.

First, you tell me what you think he did wrong.

Or the rising death toll in Iraq.

It can't exactly fall, can it?

Or the fact that Osama is still out there - remember him?

If the war on terror was just about Osama, you'd have a point. But it isn't, so you don't.

Or what about a $500 billion Deficit.

That is a good point, and conservatives are in fact arguing about it. If you were paying attention, you'd know that the president has countless critics on the right regarding his spending policies.

As far as New Orleans is considered, why not just leave it alone. You've already screwed this up as much as you can.

"You"? Pronoun trouble, since I have no connection with the generations of political corruption in N.O. and La. associated with a party to which I've never belonged.

I think you anonymous liberals should be talking about how this is a free country where people are guaranteed the right to speak out with diverse opinions on diverse topics without fear of physical reprisal. Or the spread of democracy in the middle east. Or the fact that Ted Kennedy is still a drunk power hungry hypocrite- remember him? As for New Orleans, perhaps next time you anonymous liberals will follow the disaster plan and drive some buses.
