What happened to C-Pol?

For over a decade, this blog was called "C-POL: Constitutionalist, Conservative Politics". Over time, my deep-thought ponderings have been moving away from the rough-and-tumble of everyday political wrangling and toward the larger philosophical, ideological, and cultural currents of our age.  

I've changed the title of the blog to highlight my conviction that the "fundamental transformation" (to adapt President Obama's phrase) of the United States that's currently underway is, in the long run, bad not only for this country but for the world in general.

Scoff if you must; I'm okay with that.  I aim to make my case as time goes on.  I'm okay with being on the "wrong side of history" if I'm actually right.

C-Pol, the blog that just won't go away

My passion for blogging has ebbed and flowed since the founding of this blog in 2004.  After a lengthy hiatus, I think I may be ready to give it another whirl.

I know that various old posts still come up in internet searches, because I still get occasional non-spam comments.  Most intriguing to me has been the strange conversation that has resulted from a post I did a couple of years ago on the political views of Sam Elliott.  Unless I change my mind for some reason, that will be the topic of my next post.

So.  Even if most of C-Pol's past followers have moved on to other things, I still intend to document my thoughts on the major currents of politics, culture, religion, etc.  However you arrived here, I hope you'll find food for thought.  If you stick around to comment, I hope you'll do so civilly.

As before, I'm more interested in the big ideas that drive the issues of the day than I might be in the issues themselves.  We'll see how that works out.

I see that my blogroll is woefully outdated.  I really ought to do something about that.

We're back... REALLY

"Here I am! Did you miss me?"

After a nearly three-year hiatus, I find that I simply must return to blogging at C-Pol.

As many of you know, I've spent the past year and a half writing on climate change issues at The Global Warming Heretic. That debate continues to rage unabated, and it's about to take a more sinister* turn in the U.S. under the incoming Obama administration, but I've found that there are now a multitude of sites out there that handle the technical side of the debate far better than I can, and I humbly yield to them.

The other angles of the controversy -- namely, public policy and media coverage -- can be handled just as well (or even better) within the scope and mission of the C-Pol blog.

I had a lot to say during the recently concluded presidential campaign, but I did so mainly through other forums. Now, for the first time in years, I've been feeling a tug back toward this blog. And here I'll be, until I get tired of doing it again.

As I said on my other blog:

Real life often takes me away from blogging, so don't assume this site has been abandoned just because it's been a week or two since I last posted. Whenever opportunity and motivation converge favorably, I'll be here.

I pursue this blog as a hobby, not a vocation. When real life intrudes, blogging will usually have to take a back seat. I expect, however, that I'll be here often enough to keep the place interesting.


* Sinister in the sense that we now have national leaders more than willing to implement bad policy based on dubious science.
